Sultan Qaboos is the pioneer of the modernization of the Sultanate of Oman and has a special relationship with Egypt and its people photo

Sultan Qaboos was born on November 18, 1940 in Salalah in the south, where he continued his school education, until he joined the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in Britain at the age of twenty.
Sultan Qaboos took over from his father on July 23, 1970, and by virtue of the country's constitution, the Sultan held most of the positions in Oman, as he was Prime Minister and Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, and he also kept the defense and finance portfolio and the position of the governor of the Central Bank.

Sultan Qaboos has, since assuming power in the country, implemented several development projects to raise the standard of living of the Omani citizen, focusing on establishing schools, hospitals and other necessary facilities.

And he established the first opera house in the Arab Gulf region and is known today as the Sultanate of Oman Opera House in Muscat, in addition to the establishment of the Sultan Qaboos Encyclopedia of Arabic Names and support projects for memorizing the Holy Qur’an both in the Sultanate or a number of Arab countries, in addition to the Sultan Qaboos Prize for Environmental Preservation, which is presented every two years Through UNESCO.

Sultan Qaboos has received a number of awards, the most prominent of which are the International Peace Prize, the Jawaharlal Nehru Award for International Understanding, the Isabella Catholic Order Necklace, the Knight of the Grand Cross of the Order of St. Michael and St. George and other awards.

His foreign policy


Politically, Sultan Qaboos bin Saeed was one of the founders of the Gulf Cooperation Council in 1981, and Oman maintained good relations with all Arab countries.

Oman played a role in the nuclear agreement between Iran and the West that was signed in 2015, as it hosted talks between US and Iranian officials in 2012 that led to the start of negotiations for the agreement that President Donald Trump later withdrew.

The Sultanate’s foreign policy, established by Sultan Qaboos bin Saeed, was characterized by the features of the Omani character based on tolerance, dialogue, and distance from disputes.

With Sultan Qaboos taking power in 1970, Oman had limited relations with the outside world, including the neighboring Arab countries, but the Sultan soon expanded the bridges of friendship and opened horizons of cooperation with various countries on the basis of mutual respect.

The late Sultan also established the basics and foundations of Omani policy on a solid foundation of work to achieve peace, security and stability.
Omani diplomacy gained great confidence and appreciation, and Muscat was a destination for many leaders of the region and the world to consult and exchange opinions with Sultan Qaboos, and embraced several efforts, both public and unannounced, to work on bringing the positions closer and overcoming differences between the parties concerned with several regional, Arab and international problems.
To that, the policy pursued by Sultan Qaboos has recorded many successes, and Oman is an active member of international and regional organizations, especially the League of Arab States and the Gulf Cooperation Council.

His positions with Egypt

October War


Sultan Qaboos issued a decree during the October 1973 war, to donate a quarter of the salaries of employees to support Egypt, and to send two Omani medical missions to Egypt, according to the SIS report.

Camp David Convention

Some Arab countries took a hostile stance towards Egypt that resulted in a comprehensive Arab boycott, after the signing of the Camp David agreement with Israel.

However, the Sultanate of Oman maintained its relations with Egypt and did not take any negative position, after the visit of the late President Mohamed Anwar Sadat to Jerusalem in 1977.

Sultan Qaboos Bin Saeed, in a speech delivered at the 14th National Day celebrations of the Sultanate in 1984, said, "It has been proven through the stages of contemporary history that Egypt is a basic element in building the Arab entity, and they have never failed to sacrifice for the sake of defending Arab and Islam issu
