Indonesia .. floods flood the capital, and rescue teams are evacuating the population

The Indonesian authorities continue to evacuate tens of thousands of residents of the capital, Jakarta. And that after the torrential rains and landslides killed more than twenty people and chaos in several areas in addition to great material damage

The Ministry of Social Affairs of Indonesia announced on Thursday that the massive floods that swept the capital, Jakarta and the surrounding areas, at the beginning of the new year, had 

caused the death of at least 21 people.

Parts of Jakarta and surrounding areas began to be submerged on Wednesday, 18 hours after torrential rains flooded homes and washed away cars.

Television footage showed residents standing on the roofs of their homes waiting for help.

The Ministry of Social Affairs stated in a statement that the majority of deaths occurred in the town of Bogor.

Agus Webow, a spokesman for the National Disaster Management Authority, announced earlier today that 16 people had died as a result of the floods, noting that some of the deaths were caused by electrocution.
